The Mayor of Sarajevo, Predrag Puharić, met today at the Sarajevo City Hall with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarah Eti Castellani, on the occasion of organizing a commemoration for the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
The meeting provided an opportunity to agree on the sponsorship of the City of Sarajevo for an artistic event that the Embassy will organize on July 10th and which will be held right in the City Hall – a place that symbolizes the culture of remembrance and cultural resistance of the Bosnian capital.
The event, of high artistic value, will represent Italy’s contribution to the commemorations of the Srebrenica genocide, as a sign of respect for the victims and as an expression of solidarity with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The initiative, which received the support of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of July 11, 1995, the anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN “safe zone” of Srebrenica, will be included in the official calendar of events organized to mark the anniversary.
In May 2024, Italy supported the United Nations General Assembly Resolution establishing July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide, the Italian Embassy in BiH announced.
