EU Gives Higher Tariff Quotas for Fish, Wine and Sugar

BiH i EU (1)The BiH Negotiating Team achieved an agreement with the European Commission to, in addition to technical adaptations to the Stabilization and Association Agreement, the EU and BIH increase tariff quotas for one another for fish, wine and sugar.

The Head of the Negotiating Team of BIH Dragiša Mekić said to ‘Glas Srpske’ after the meeting with the European Commission Negotiating Team in Brussels, that this means that BiH will increase quotas for these products for the EU as long as Croatia exports to BiH.

“On the other hand, as far as BIH exports to Croatia, the EU opens the door to BiH for that amount’’, said Mekić. He noted that increased quotas will be beneficial to BiH.

“This is consistent with the position of the BiH Council of Ministers. Now on this agreement, they must specify the EU member states’’, said Mekić and added that the EU demand is far higher and that if they are not satisfied with these three products, they can refuse it.

He pointed out that the information of the Negotiating Team should now be found at the session of the BiH Council of Ministers.

He added that this was also about milk, and that the European Commission expressed the fear that, due to the hard stance of BiH that has not made any concession on milk and milk products or in other types of goods, he is afraid that Croatia and other EU member countries could stop the export of milk from BiH.

Business people in the RS pointed out that generally speaking, it could be said that they are prepared for the accession of Croatia to the EU.

“The manufacturing facilities are in a better position in comparison to the primary production, above all smaller farms for the production of milk, which are not trained. Given the fact that we have not known all the necessary information in relation to exports to Croatia, it is difficult to give a real assessment. We hope that the products of animal origin, at least the export of milk and milk products will be enabled, otherwise the consequences will be huge because this is about 7.000-8.000 subcontractors in BiH that supply milk’’, said the Spokesperson for the RS Chamber of Commerce Vladimir Blagojević.
