13020310_1157457827638505_1566520619_n“Women from the First Line” by Pierre Adrien Brazinni is an exhibition of photographs which features portraits of ten women who have actively participated in the defense of the country during the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, through fighting or working in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH).

Dana in the archives of the ARBiH speak about 5.360 women who participated in war activities in the past war.

“Today, when you mention women in the context of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they are always perceived as victims, and first associations are rape, exile, ethnic cleansing and the like. However, this perception clearly does not encompass all realities that women have been through during the war and that is why I wanted to tell the other part of the story, the one that speaks about price and courage,” said the author, Pierre Adrien Brazinni.

Brazinni stated that many of these women have been gradually forgotten and rejected after the war.

“Apart from several official ceremonies and standard worn phrases, they have been offered very little help. Many of them are unemployed, a great part of them do not have veteran pension, and all of them suffer from different degrees of post-traumatic stress,” Brazinni said.

The exhibition will be officially opened within the program of the 21st Modul of Memory on Monday, April 18, in the Sarajevo War Theatre at 7 p.m.

Exhibition will be opened until Thursday, April 28, and entrance is free for all visitors.
