snowy-sarajevo2From the Federal Civil Protection Administration have issued a warning and recommendations due to low temperatures that will hit BiH in the coming few days.

Federal Hydrometeorological Institute has issued an orange alert for the time period from 6th to 8th of January due to low air temperature and the possibility of strong windstorms. Low temperatures are expected all across the country, strong wind in Herzegovina and western BiH.

Federal Civil Protection Administration appeals to local authorities and relevant departments to clean snow and ice and carry out their work consciously in order to facilitate the life of citizens in areas affected by low temperatures and windstorm.

Citizens should do the following:

  • Monitor the radio and TV about current weather conditions and the necessary information.
  • Obtain sufficient quantities of firewood and food.
  • Spend less time outdoors or in unheated enclosed space (particularly the chronically ill, children, pregnant women and the elderly).
  • Before going outside, wear enough warm clothes and shoes, with emphasis on the protection of the head, upper and lower extremities (hands and feet).
  • As the owner or user of residential or business premises, you are obliged to maintain the sidewalks in front of your home or office regularly and timely and keep them clear of snow and ice.
  • If you cannot clean the ice from the sidewalk, it is necessary to sprinkle it with the material for dissolution (salt, ashes, etc.).
  • If you go out, use winter shoes with rough sole in order to reduce the risk of slipping and falling on ice or snow.
  • Thoroughly clean the snow and ice from your vehicle, with mandatory use of winter equipment in the vehicle.
