Former CIA Director warns: Moldova could be Putin’s next Target

David Petraeus, former director of the CIA and commander of US troops, warned that Moldova could be Vladimir Putin’s next target. Speaking to CNN, Pietrus said that if Russia defeats Ukraine, Putin will not stop there.

“No doubt, he will not stop in Ukraine. The question is how long it will take them to regenerate their military forces and deploy elsewhere. Certainly, Moldova will be in the crosshairs. After all, there are still about 1,500 Russian soldiers in the separatist part of the country, Transnistria,” Pietrus said.

He also points out that there is also fear for the fate of the Baltic countries.

“His goal has always been to recreate as much as possible of the former USSR or perhaps the former empire,” said Pietrus.

Regarding the situation in Moldova, the Office for Reintegration Policy of the Government of Moldova also announced earlier.

“According to the information we have, we have no reason to believe that the situation in the region could worsen,” they said.

Also, the president of the Commission for Security, Defense and Public Order Lilian Carp stated that at the current stage there is no security risk for Moldova, but that the situation may worsen.

“We have to follow. We don’t know what’s on their minds. Such attempts have been made before. It’s not the first time. They have held pseudo-referendums before and in these conditions we have to be very careful with the actions we take, the statements we make, which affect our security. We must take the necessary measures to prevent escalation,” said Carp.
