Former Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Dragan Mektic was acquitted yesterday by the first instance verdict of the Court of BiH of charges of abuse of office and authority during the implementation of the cross-border cooperation project in the field of firefighting, which was financed by the European Union (EU).

In the same case, Igor Golijanin, Samir Agic, and Edin Garaplija were acquitted.

The Court noted that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH did not prove the existence of a criminal offense on any of the counts in the indictment.

Mektic was acquitted of abusing his position as security minister, Golijanin as Mektic’s chief of staff, Agic as assistant minister, while Garaplija was acquitted as a responsible person and owner of the ”Inza” Institute for Fire and Explosion Protection in Sarajevo.

The project was related to the procurement of firefighting equipment, hiring people, as well as the procedure of procuring materials from parties of interest and close relatives, which resulted in illegal property gain.
