Diesel in Bosnia and Herzegovina currently costs around 2.60 BAM per liter at certain gas stations, which represents one of the lowest prices in the last few months, our interlocutors point out.
They add that current fuel prices are the lowest recorded since the end of February, when the conflict in the Middle East began.
Oil prices on the world market and the impact on Bosnia and Herzegovina
Almir Bečarević, an energy expert from Sarajevo, told “Nezavisne novine” that currently oil prices on world stock markets are in a slight decline, by around two to three dollars. However, as he points out, such developments will not have a significant and rapid impact on fuel prices on the domestic market for the time being.
“We need to wait for the price of oil to drop to around 70 dollars per barrel in order for there to be a more serious and noticeable reduction in fuel prices. Whether this will happen in the coming period depends on further developments on the world market and the supply and demand relationship,” said Bečarević.
He clarified that there are few gas stations where fuel currently costs around three marks per liter, while in most cases the price is lower.
“Mostly the price is below three marks. Now there are many pumps where diesel costs around 2.60 BAM, so consumers have a certain choice. Those who want to save can find more favorable prices if they inquire and compare the offer,” he said.
According to him, the current prices are the lowest fuel prices at gas stations recorded since the end of February, which shows that the market continues to record certain oscillations, but also the possibility of more favorable offers for consumers.
An additional decrease in fuel prices is expected
Đorđe Savić, chairman of the Oil and Oil Derivatives Trade Group in the Chamber of Commerce of the Republika Srpska, told “Nezavisne novine” earlier that the price is expected to drop from five to 10 pfennigs per liter this week.
He pointed out that the prices of fuel in the last two months are lower by approximately one mark per liter.
At one gas station in Banja Luka, they state that a liter of gasoline currently costs 2.79 BAM, while the price of diesel is 2.86 BAM.
Consumers are looking for a drop in prices of other products as well
Snežana Šešlija, president of the Citizens’ Association “Tolerance against Diversity” (ToPeeR) from Doboj, pointed out to “Nezavisne novine” that consumers are satisfied with the drop in fuel prices.
“There is a noticeable drop in fuel prices, which we certainly welcome. However, what worries us is the fact that there was no reduction in the prices of other products that previously rose in price precisely because of the rise in fuel prices,” said Šešlija.
As she said, consumers hope that fuel prices will continue to fall, but also that the prices of other products will go down.
“If we recall the period two or three months ago, when fuel prices were rising, the prices of other products were also rising, including food and basic necessities of life. Now, when fuel is cheaper, the prices of these products mostly remain the same and few people think about lowering them. Citizens hope that the prices of other products will also go down,” concluded Šešlija.
The subsidy of 10 Fennings remains in effect until July 15
Namely, at the session held on April 1, 2026, the Government of the Republika Srpska passed a decision on direct support, which stipulates that legal entities, independent entrepreneurs and natural persons exercise the right to reduce the payment obligation when purchasing unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel in the amount of 0.10 BAM per liter at gas stations in the Republic of Srpska, and this measure was extended until July 15.
Oil on world stock markets fell to the lowest level in three months
Oil prices on the world stock market fell slightly on Tuesday, with crude oil selling for $73 per barrel, and the price of Brent oil for $77.
This is the lowest price level in three months thanks to signs of progress in the US-Iran peace talks, which eased supply concerns.
