Hamas said on Friday that it was holding consultations with Palestinian groups on a recent ceasefire proposal it received from US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Hamas “is holding consultations with Palestinian factions regarding a ceasefire proposal it recently received from Mr. Witkoff through a mediator,” the group said, without providing details.
Hamas confirmed on Thursday that it had received a new proposal from a mediator for a new Gaza ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange.
Following the announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he accepted Witkoff’s truce draft.
The 13-point US plan calls for a 60-day ceasefire, the mutual release of hostages and prisoners and structured talks on the future of Gaza, along with the release of ten living Israeli prisoners and the remains of 18 by Hamas in two phases, according to Israeli and US media and Palestinian sources.
