In Sarajevo there is a kind of monopoly in the enterprise Vodovod i kanalizacija (Water Supply and Sewerage) that wants to resolve its problems with a blackmail and that is why they are sinking all the deeper, said the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality Senaid Memić.
Memić commented on ever present problems of water supply that the citizens of Sarajevo are experiencing even in the fall and winter period. He strongly criticized the enterprise Vodovod i kanalizacija and sent a word to the authorities to make a “purge” in this enterprise.
“It is a shame that Ilidža supplies Sarajevo with water, while Rakovica has no connections to the water supply network. We have already invested 18 million BAM there, for the construction of a new water supply network. That is a project which lasts for seven years. We intended to make the main water supply infrastructure all the way to the border with the Municipality of Kiseljak. We estimated that nearly 3,000 houses will connect to that water supply network,” Memić said.
According to Memić, nothing has been done in Sarajevo during previous several years to improve the water supply conditions.
Memić highlighted the importance of building a water supply network at the territory of Ilidža because there are insecure and unreliable local water supply networks in certain parts of the municipality. He noted that the waste water problem is being solved slower than expected.
Moreover, Memić reminded that a sewerage system for taking away the waste waters will be constructed at the territory of Ilidža after the completion of the water supply network.
The new water supply network will cover the area of 12 square kilometers and the completion of the first stage of the project is planned in this year. The Municipality of Ilidža stated that 75 percent of population in this area will be encompassed with the completion of the first stage.
So far, five reservoirs with total volume amounting to 5,300,000 liters of water and five pumping stations with water pumping up to 700 meters above sea level were constructed. The main distributional pipeline is also completed, as well as the secondary water supply network.
“In 2016 we allocated 350,000 BAM for the completion of the first stage of the project, whose implementation will enable connection to the water supply network for 1,750 facilities. So far, 1,520 facilities have been connected,” the Municipality of Ilidža stated.
