Iranian MFA: A quick Outcome to Negotiations with the US is highly unrealistic

A quick outcome to negotiations with the United States (US) is “very unrealistic”, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagaei said today.

“To expect a result (of negotiations) in the short term, regardless of the mediator, seems very unrealistic to me,” Bagaei told Iranian state television.

He added that Iran does not expect “goodwill” from the US, saying that America’s “credibility” for negotiations is being questioned due to its lack of readiness.

“You cannot simultaneously say, ‘Let’s have a dialogue’ and take actions during that dialogue that are contrary to the spirit of diplomacy,” Bagaei said.

An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said it was possible that there could be renewed fighting on one side.

“We have to be prepared for any eventuality,” he added.

US President Donald Trump recently extended indefinitely a ceasefire agreed between the US and Iran on April 7, which has largely halted fighting that began on February 28.
