A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied the existence of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In an interview with BBC Newsnight, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hecht insisted that there is electricity and water in Gaza.
“We have no obligation to supply Hamas with electricity. The people who attacked us have been controlling the Gaza Strip for several years. They have electricity. I can see water as well, there is no humanitarian crisis,” said Hecht.
When asked by journalists how this is possible, and whether he can explain it, Hecht repeated that there is no humanitarian crisis.
“I focus on Israel, you immediately ask about Gaza. They started this, they came with ISIL flags and slaughtered pregnant women, killed babies. We don’t do that,” Hecht angrily replied.
Israel has blocked the cross-border supply of electricity, fuel and water to the Gaza Strip, conducting regular airstrikes.
This morning, the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency warned that water-borne diseases could begin to spread because “most of Gaza” has no running water, Klix.ba reports.
