The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Elmedin Konakovic, met yesterday in Doha with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, during his official visit to Qatar.

It was noted during the meeting that bilateral relations between BiH and Qatar are positive, friendly, and free of unresolved issues.

Minister Konakovic began the meeting by expressing gratitude to Qatar for supporting the adoption of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica. He also invited the Qatari Prime Minister to attend the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

He further thanked Qatar’s authorities for their assistance in evacuating BiH citizens from Gaza following the escalation of violence in October last year.

The minister expressed hope that the good and friendly relations between the two countries would be followed by the development of economic cooperation.

He emphasized BiH’s interest in strengthening economic ties and attracting Qatari investments in sectors such as energy, tourism, water production, organic and halal food, infrastructure projects, the defense industry, joint product development, and collaboration in entering third markets.

During the meeting, Minister Konakovic congratulated Qatar on its National Day, celebrated on December 18th, marking the unification of Qatar in 1878.

The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted that Qatar and BiH are celebrating the 31st anniversary of bilateral relations this year, reflecting on the strong and friendly ties built over that period.

He announced that Qatar would continue to support BiH, emphasizing Qatar’s particular interest in advancing economic cooperation with BiH.

The discussion also covered contractual relations between BiH and Qatar, multilateral cooperation, integration, and reform processes in BiH, as well as current geopolitical challenges, according to a statement from the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.
