srebrenicaThe twentieth anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide next year will be marked in parliaments of Great Britain, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well and in more than 100 cities on the island and at about 1,000 other sites that include schools, religious buildings and community centers.

Heads of British organization “Remembering Srebrenica” Dr. Waqar Azmi (OBE), Advisor to the Foreign Minister of Great Britain and founder and president of this organization, and CEO Dr. Aidan Stonehouse presented at a public panel at Bosnian House in Birmingham plans for the marking of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

They explained the objectives of the organization that has the task of presenting and constantly explaining to the public in the UK and beyond what had happened in the UN protected zone of Srebrenica on 11 July 1995.

Their message is that the largest genocide committed after the Second World War on the territory of Europe must never happen again to anyone and that it must not be forgotten.

BH Infodesk from Birmingham says that Waqar Azmi said that Srebrenica is a symbol of genocide committed against Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period 1992 to 1995.

It is a symbol of suffering of inmates in concentration camps, the siege of Sarajevo, killing of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s children, suffering in Prijedor, Ahmići, Foča, Zvornik, Vlasenica and all those places that are now marked with mass graves from this period.

Also, marking the Srebrenica genocide is an attempt to send a message to political powers in the world that they must not ever allow a new Holocaust or a new genocide, said the people from the organization “Remembering Srebrenica”.

Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in London Mustafa Mujezinovicć, who attended the panel, expressed support of the Embassy to this organization and urged all BiH citizens and their associations in the UK to get involved and help to mark two decades of genocide in Srebrenica in the UK in a dignified manner.
