The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is Germany’s only hope, said Elon Musk, one of the leaders of the newly formed Secretariat for Government Efficiency in the administration of US President Donald Trump.
“The AfD is Germany’s only hope,” Musk wrote on the platform “X”.
In December, Musk said that the AfD is the only political force capable of saving this European nation from becoming “a shadow of its former self.”
This statement by Musk to the German newspaper “Welt am Sonntag” caused a heated debate both in the editorial board of “Welt” and in Germany.
Editor Eva Marie Kogel resigned, while Friedrich Merz, the conservative candidate for chancellor, said that Musk’s statement amounted to interference in the federal elections in Germany, which will be held on February 23.
On January 9, Musk held an online conversation with AfD co-chair Alice Weidel.
