The Mayor of Mostar Ljubo Bešlić received yesterday journalists from the South Caucuses who are in BiH on a study visit.
Bešlić spoke to journalists on the events in Mostar during the 1990’s, the current political situation in Mostar and the role of the international community, particularly the Office of the High Representative in the adoption of the Statute of the City of Mostar.
The goal of this initiative and student visit is to providing leading journalists from that conflict region of Nagorno Karabakh information to gain knowledge on the experiences in the field of conflict resolution and construction of a lasting peace after armed conflicts in other parts of the world.
International Alert, with EU support, is leading the organization, and the study visit lasts from 17-26 March.
During the study visit, foreign journalists would like to speak with different actors in BiH to find out more about the factors that contributed to the final success of the peace process in BiH, as well as the role of civil society and media in the process of reconciliation, the role of you in the social-political processes in their communities and the main characteristics of the process of democratic transition through which BiH is going through in the last decade.
Journalists will meet with the former and current political actors at the state, entity and local levels who have been involved in the process of achieving and implementing peace and the process of political transition. They will meet with representatives of civil society organizations, analysis and representatives of the media who are playing a key role in the process of reconciliation.
They will also meet with experts who could give a thorough perspective on the process of political transition and the role of civil society organizations, and media in the formation and transformation of public opinion.
After the visit they will disseminate information on experiences from BiH with relevant actors from the domain of politics, civil society and media with the goal for lessons from BiH to be applied in the process of reconciliation in the conflict region of Nagorno Karabakh.
