McGUFFIE: POTENCIJALNI INVESTITORI MOGLI BI POTRAŽITI DRUGE LOKACIJEThe spokesperson of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Bosnia and Herzegovina Andy McGuffie said that the economy and creating a better business climate in BiH have no alternative, and “the country will have to deal with it no matter what that the focus is on some other political issues.”

“Economy cannot be avoided because it is a part of everyday life. Economy necessarily raises some questions that require an answer,” said McGuffie.

Regardless of what the focus of politicians is at the moment, he said, the economy is an issue that will have to be addressed not only for the benefit of BiH citizens, but also because of the path of BiH path towards the EU.

“One day you will have to meet the EU standards, and this will not be possible without resolving these issues,” said McGuffie.

He is convinced that there is a willingness of the authorities at all levels in BiH to work on economic issues and reminded that recently a meeting at Jahorina was held between entity Prime Ministers and Chairman of the Council of Ministers, which was attended by Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars -Gunnar Wigemark, who pointed out that it appears that there is a strong willingness of all parties to realize the importance of reforms.

A spokesman of the EU Delegation to BiH recalled that the Compact for Growth and Jobs gives a comprehensive analysis of the economic situation and contains six recommendations and governments at all levels need to devise policies and decide on the direction of the country’s economy.

“This document represents the attempt of the EU to provide a platform to discuss the economic situation and assist the authorities to go in a better direction, especially because of the current situation characterized by high unemployment, especially among young people, and problems faced by the companies.

The benefits for the citizens should be seen in a better business climate and in which companies will be able to operate more easily, as well as a better climate for domestic and foreign investments and better social benefits determined on the basis of real needs,” said McGuffie.

During May and June, in 15 cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina it is planned to implement the initiative of the Office of the EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUSR), in order to promote public debate on socio-economic reforms.
