Mektic OrepicMinister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Vlaho Orepic is paying a visit to BiH, where he met with the Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektic and discussed current issues related to security and border crossing, security challenges and promotion of cooperation.

Minister of Security Dragan Mektic expressed his satisfaction with the visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia led by Vlaho Orepic.

“Today’s and yesterday’s conversations are creating preconditions and conditions to make some sort of milestones to fully start a new type of relations between our two countries, especially in the security sector,” said Mektic.

He said that he repeatedly emphasized to Minister Orepic that security in BiH, despite all that we undertake within our country, depends on the relationship that we have with our neighboring countries, primarily Croatia and Serbia.

They also spoke about the specific security challenges such as the refugee crisis with which Croatia was affected in the last period.

“BiH has not been affected by this route, but we were preparing for a response and we talked about this topic as well. If it comes to that again, we will make a defense mechanism and a planned act together,” said Mektic.

“With the joint engagement of our security agencies and joint police teams, we agreed that we will work on joint investigations and eliminate the danger from the point of crime in both countries,” said Mektic, adding that they did not return to the past, but they were concerned only with the future.

Minister Orepic said that he truly respects and loves BiH and he is willing for all forms of security cooperation with BiH.

Mektic added that with Croatia will be established bilateral forms of cooperation in sharing intelligence regarding the threat of terrorism, and joint teams will be formed as well.
