Minister Kosarac: Politicians unfoundedly dispute implementation of ‘Buk Bijela’ Project

Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac stated that he fully supports the continuation of the construction of the “Buk Bijela” Hydropower Plant on the Drina River, which is an important energy resource of Republika Srpska, thanks to which economic growth and job creation will be enabled.

He mentioned that the construction of this hydropower plant is part of the Energy Strategy of the Republika Srpska, which, together with the Framework Energy Strategy of the Federation of BiH, has been incorporated into the Framework Energy Strategy of BiH until 2035, announced the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“In April 2018, the Council of Ministers of BiH adopted the Framework Energy Strategy of BiH until 2035, which, among other things, envisages the construction of the “Buk Bijela” Hydropower Plant,” reminded Minister Košarac.

According to him, the Bosniak ministers then voted for this project, and today they are unfoundedly and without any reason disputing its implementation.

He said that the institutions of the Republika Srpska undertook activities on the construction of the “Buk Bijela” Hydropower Plant in accordance with their constitutional and legal competencies, whereby there was no violation or deviation from the competencies of institutions at the level of BiH.

As he pointed out, the Republika Srpska has never disputed the granting of concessions on the territory of the Federation of BiH, even when it came to border zones with neighboring countries or the Republika Srpska itself.
