Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, assessed “that it is not necessary to find an item on the agenda of the joint session of the Council of Ministers and the Government of Croatia that relates to cooperation with the NATO alliance.”
Košarac said in a statement that “the Croatian side, among other things, proposed that the proposed conclusions on cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization be considered at the joint session on June 20 in Zagreb, but that his position is that it is unnecessary to discuss it.”
“The Republika Srpska is against membership in the NATO alliance, and there are valid and adequate decisions of its institutions about it. Representatives of the Republika Srpska in joint institutions will never consider membership in this military alliance, because we are bound by the policies and decisions of the institutions of the Republika Srpska and its leadership on military neutrality. In addition, the first NATO aggression was against Republika Srpska and Serbia, and we can never forget that,” said Košarac.
In this regard, Košarac emphasized “that there is no need or justified reason to discuss NATO in Zagreb or anywhere else.”
“Our position is clear – no membership in NATO. A certain form of cooperation with this alliance is acceptable to us, but even that should not be a topic of discussion outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina, therefore not a topic of the joint session in Zagreb,” Košarac said.
According to him, it would be better to focus the energy at the joint session on solving controversial issues that concern all citizens, reports RTRS.
“I am primarily thinking of the issue of the construction of the disputed landfill on Trgovska Gora. It is the first topic that I proposed for the daily work of the joint session and I really expect a serious discussion on this pressing issue,” concluded Košarac.
