The Association of Skating of B&H will organize the first international competition in figure skating from 31 January to 2 February called ‘Sarajevo Open’.
The General Secretary of the B&H Olympic Committee Said Fazlagić said at a press conference that this will be the highest rated competition in winter sports this season in Sarajevo and a central event in marking the 30 years since the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
The President of the Organizing Committee of the ‘Sarajevo Open’ Dževad Tirak said that this would be the first figure skating competition in Sarajevo, which is located in the official calendar of the International Skating Union (ISU).
‘’In addition to skaters from the region, from Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, athletes from other European countries and the world will take part for the first time. Although the deadline for registration ends 10 January, at this moment we already have official registrations from Russia, Turkey, Cyprus and Austria. The performance of around 0100 athletes in several age categories, from 8 to 19 years, is expected. We tried to fulfill all the criteria of ISU by utilizing the new ISU judge scoring. The figure skating association has so far independently provided more than 20.000 BAM for equipment, and for the entire organization we need 15.000 BAM more’’, said Tirak.
