Mothers of Srebrenica: Our Children did not disappear, they were killed and thrown into Mass Graves

A press conference was held at the Srebrenica Memorial Center today on the occasion of the International Day of Missing Persons, and the problems of finding missing persons, especially those who were killed in the Srebrenica genocide, were addressed by Sefket Hafizovic, chairman of the Srebrenica Memorial Center’s Board of Directors, president of the Association ‘Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica Enclave and Zepa’ Munira Subasic, president of the Association ‘Srebrenica Mothers’ Fadila Efendic, president of the Association ‘Women of Srebrenica’ Nura Begovic and Suhra Sinanovic, president of the Association ‘Women of Podrinja’ Bratunac.

The mothers pointed to the fact that the people who were killed in the genocide in Srebrenica, and about 1,200 of them are still being sought, did not disappear but were taken, selected and taken to selected locations where they were executed and then buried in mass graves, it was announced. from the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

They recalled that many mothers were gone forever without finding a single bone of their children. The Prosecutor’s Office and the International Community, which did not prevent the crime of genocide, are responsible for the fact that they are still being sought after for so many years, as they stated. Munira Subasic, a mother who buried only a few of her son’s bones, emphasized that they, the mothers, will never give up searching for their loved ones no matter how many years have passed.

It is noticeable that there are fewer and fewer of those who should, at the commemoration of such dates, be with mothers and together with them in the fight that they have been tirelessly fighting for decades, while demanding that the remaining victims of the past war in our country be found.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Srebrenica Memorial Center Sevket Hafizovic stated that the most frequently unanswered question asked by almost every mother from Podrinje was ‘Where are our loved ones?’ He repeated, as last year on August 30, that the survivors are asking the institutions of Serbia and the RS to show a bit of humanity and provide information about mass graves, so that the victims can be properly exhumed, identified and buried with dignity, and the survivors can rest in peace.
