Izvonid iz kataloga - Skriveni svet balkanskih žena“The hidden world of Balkan women: clothing from the late 19th and early 20th century,” is the title of the exhibition, which will be held in Sarajevo organized by the Institute for Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks in cooperation with the Belgrade Ethnographic Museum and the National Museum in Sarajevo.

Authors of the exhibition are Dr. Mirjana Menković, Director of the Belgrade Ethnographic Museum, and Svjetlana Bajić, M.A. from the National Museum in Sarajevo.

The exhibition will consist of clothing, garments and photographs from the collection of Belgrade and Sarajevo museums.

“The aim of this exhibition, after the tragic wartime period, is to point out to the existence of a unique cultural heritage of all religions in the region.

“The hidden world of Balkan women” reveals the history and culture of women’s garments for wearing outdoor at the end of the 19th, during the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st century and follows the development of the clothing fashion from the former Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire to today’s modern states,” told FENA Đermana Šeta, manager of scientific projects of the Institute of Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks.

Director of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade Mirjana Menković in a statement to FENA emphasized that museum cooperation and museums themselves have remained the best way to achieve the true objectives in culture, and topics related to the culture of femininity are the best barometer for interpreting the actual social change at the level of each society.

The exhibition will be organized at the premises of the Gazi Husrev-Bey Khaniqah from 10 to 30 September.
