There are no new Cases of Measles in the FBiH

The Department for Public Health of the FBiH forwarded the Guide for supervising the outbreak of measles in order to increase the caution regarding the proclamation of the epidemic in East Sarajevo.

A total of nine cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year in the area of the FBiH, and one of them was confirmed in the referral laboratory of UCC Sarajevo in the month of February.

“Considering that the decreasing trend includes immunization with vaccines against measles, rubeola and parotitis in the CS, as well as the possibility of epidemic episodes of the aforementioned diseases, we pass on the information regarding further treatment, according to the guidelines from the Guide for supervising the outbreak of measles,” as noted in the statement.

The Guide provides guidelines for health institutions to maintain a high rate of coverage of two-dose vaccines against measles and at least one dose of a vaccine against rubeola through high-quality services of routine immunization, to offer the opportunity for vaccination against measles through additional immunization activities in population groups that are measles-sensitive, to provide opportunities for vaccination against rubeola that include activities of additional immunization for all children vulnerable to rubeola, adolescent and women of fertile age, to further strengthen the surveillance system that includes rigorous case studies and laboratory confirmation of clinical cases and to increase the availability of quality information for healthcare workers and the public on the topic of benefits and risks that refer to vaccines against measles and rubeola.

A few days ago, three cases of measles were recorded in East Sarajevo, which is the reason why an epidemic was declared in the town. From the Public Health Institute of the FBiH and the Public Health Institute of the RS stated that the only and most effective vaccine is the MRP vaccine.

Hospitals all over BiH restricted visits until the situation with measles is stabilized and under the control.
