An agreement has been reached in regards to permit regime’s cancellation for mutual freight transport between Latvia and Bosnia and Herzegovina starting from 1 January 2020. This means transit and mutual freight transport will be liberalized and allowed to be performed without permits, as reported by Latvian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Communication Office.

A meeting of the Joint Commission of Latvia-Bosnia and Herzegovina took place in Riga on 26th and 27th February. Participants discussed subjects associated with international freight transport. To improve freight transport and considering the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina has coordinated its legislation with EU requirements, Bosnia and Herzegovina has proposed cancelling the permit regime for mutual freight transports, as decided by the committee.

«Based on the Agreement on the International Carriage of Goods by Road signed on 31 October 2013 by the government of the Republic of Latvia and Minister Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the joint committee has agreed to liberate mutual freight transports, cancelling the permit regime starting with 1 January 2020. At the same time, the committee also agreed on a permit for initial quotas on road transports to and from third countries in 2020. As a result, Latvian carriers will receive in 100 such permits from Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2020,» the ministry explains.

During the meeting, delegations exchanged information on development of trade and freight transport by land between the two countries, passenger and cargo carriage topics, coordinated permit quotas for 2019 and initial quotas for 2020. Both sides exchanged information regarding use of road fees, traffic control and discussed other subjects, as confirmed by the ministry’s office.

The delegation pointed towards the number of vehicles engaged in international freight, as well as the growing volume of mutual trade between the two countries. Both sides agreed to continue supporting development, BNN reports.
