Outgoing Supervisor visits Brcko, affirming continued Support for key Reforms

Outgoing Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko Supervisor, Jonathan Mennuti, and his successor, Louis Crishock, visited Brčko today and met with the District Government and Assembly leadership to discuss ongoing and future collaborations. The meeting focused on the completion of the Brčko Port modernization project, which has faced numerous obstacles and delays over the years. Authorities have recently cleared the remaining administrative hurdles for the third and final phase of the project, the construction of new rail and road access points.

Mennuti highlighted the strategic importance of this project for Brčko and for the entire country, as it is the only inland port in BiH and a vital commercial gateway to the world. Work needs to continue to strengthen the port’s corporate management and enhance its access and competitiveness in international markets. “Authorities must learn from mistakes made in this process and ensure greater efficiency and accountability in the funding and implementation of capital projects. A lot of money had to be wasted on fixes, while years of delays deprived the port of commercial revenue. It is the responsibility of all public representatives in Brčko to make sure such mistakes are not repeated,” Mennuti added.

The incoming Supervisor used this visit as an opportunity to begin engaging with local stakeholders ahead of officially taking office. He stated his commitment to ongoing introductions and consultations with political and business representatives, as well as the media and NGOs, over the coming months to build on the strong foundation laid by his predecessor. Mennuti and Crishock reaffirmed their dedication to supporting Brčko’s development and ensuring that the District continues to progress toward shared economic prosperity and stability.
