Possible Establishment of Direct Airline Sarajevo – Prague

The establishment of a direct air line from Sarajevo to Prague and rail transport were the main topics of separate meetings held by the State Minister of Communications and Transport, Edin Forto, with the Czech Minister of Transport, Martin Kupka, and the director of Czech Railways, Michael Krapinec, and the director of Prague Airport, Jiri Pos.

Minister Kupka supported Minister Forto‘s initiative to expand the European network of corridors (TEN-T network) with an additional corridor that would connect the four main cities in our region on the stretch from Zagreb through Bihac, Sarajevo and Podgorica to Tirana, which would enable an easier way financing the construction of those road routes and significant support from the European Union (EU) funds.

On this occasion, Minister Forto pointed out the necessity of introducing benefits for professional drivers who are not exempted from the EU directive according to which they can stay in the EU for 90 days during 180 days, in contrast to the crews of ships and airplanes who are exempted from this EU directive.

The overload of road transport and the strategic decisions of Europe and the allocations that accompany these strategies indicate that the future of transport is in railways.

The director of Czech Railways, Krapinec stated that the Czech Republic allocates significant funds for passenger rail traffic, which is financed in only one third of the costs from the sale of tickets, while two thirds of the costs are co-financed by all levels of government.

According to the director of Pos, one of the priorities of Prague Airport is the opening of new lines, including the one to Sarajevo. At the same time, readiness was expressed to strengthen cooperation and transfer the rich knowledge and experience that Prague Airport has in its successful operations, which can be applied at airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina(BiH), Biznis Info reports.
