Proposed Set Of Measures Aimed At Improving Air Quality In Banja Luka

The Mayor of Banja Luka, Drasko Stanivukovic, has proposed a set of measures aimed at improving air quality.

The proposal is that filters on chimneys of all individual and collective heating facilities be made mandatory, and once the final price is determined, the possibility of subsidizing them will be considered.

During the New Year holidays, pyrotechnics, that is, fireworks, will not be used, and citizens have also been urged to act likewise.

Work will be done on introducing electric buses and increasing subsidies for public transport in order to reduce the number of cars in traffic, and there will be insistence on tightening technical inspections of motor vehicles.

Along with stricter controls of gas emitters, inspections of all potential polluters will also be intensified, without exception, the City Administration announced.

It was also emphasized that the construction of green barriers and tree lines, as well as the expansion of the district heating system, will continue.

“We must seek concrete solutions that have only one goal – clean air,” Stanivukovic said.

He stressed that every well-intentioned proposal, regardless of where it comes from, is not viewed as a political issue but as a shared concern, because everyone breathes the same air.

Yesterday, Banja Luka was among the five cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) where the air was unhealthy, so citizens are advised to avoid staying outdoors.
