The Chief Prosecutor of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office, Sabina Sarajlija, said that in 2022, 1,076 convictions were handed down, of which two-thirds were suspended, and one-third ended with imprisonment or other sanctions.
She said this during the session of the CS Assembly where the Report on the work of the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton for 2022 is being discussed.
Sarajlija pointed out that the systematization of the Prosecutor’s Office approved 57 prosecutorial positions, including the chief prosecutor and three deputy chief prosecutors.
She claims that an average of 50 prosecutors formally performed the prosecutor’s office, which is seven prosecutors less and represents 87.72 percent of the number stipulated by the decisions of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH.
“In 2022, the prosecution achieved a collective norm of 121.69 percent. It was emphasized that the collective norm of the Department for Economic Crime and Corruption is 116.01 percent, the Department for General Crime is 130.09 percent, the norm of the Department for War Crimes is 125.08 and the Department for Juveniles is 113.96 percent,” said Sarajlija.
She claims that 96 percent of indictments ended in guilty verdicts and that they managed to overcome the influx of cases.
She pointed out that the total number of pending cases on December 31, 2021 is 65,343, and on December 31, 2022, 65,247.
“The number of pending cases on December 31, 2022 is lower by 96 cases compared to the number of pending cases on December 31, 2021,” emphasized Sarajlija, Fena reports.
