RAF Typhoons Intercept Multiple Russian Aircraft Near NATO Airspace

British Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter jets have been scrambled twice in the past 48 hours to protect NATO airspace from Russian fighter jets, British media reported on Sunday.

British Typhoon jets were scrambled after two separate incidents this week after Russian warplanes flew too close to NATO’s border, causing a stir, London’s Telegraph reported.

The interventions came as US President Donald Trump appeared to have lost patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin and threatened to pull the US out of talks on a peace deal for Ukraine.

This is the first time the RAF has been called on to intervene under NATO’s new mission to bolster Europe’s air defences, Tanjug reported.

Ministers said the latest incident was a warning that Russia was becoming increasingly aggressive in its provocations of the West, Al Jazeera reported.
