Republic of Croatia: We have nothing with Croatian National Assembly’s Initiative

The Republic of Croatia has nothing to do with the unofficial initiative of the Croatian National Assembly (HNS BiH) from Mostar to move the embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Jerusalem.

This is the position expressed for Jutarnji list by an unnamed diplomatic source from Zagreb, saying that Croatia is a member of the European Union, and the EU’s position is that it will not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel unless the Israelis and Palestinians agree on it.

“In short, it seems that this is a private game of Dragan Čović, which we have nothing to do with,” commented a senior diplomatic source.

We remind you that two days ago a source from the Croatian National Assembly (HNS) said that in the coming period, they will launch an official initiative for Bosnia and Herzegovina to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, which is an issue that causes numerous controversies in the world.

If the initiative is not adopted by the state institutions (and it certainly won’t because the Bosniaks are against it, as well as a huge part of the international community), the HNS will supposedly independently recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel with its declaration.

“Although it is not a classic recognition of the state, let our friends in Israel know that an entire constituent nation recognizes their aspirations for Jerusalem as the capital,” they said from HNS.

Very few countries recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This was done in 2018 by the USA during the mandate of Donald Trump, the Czech Republic, Kosovo, but the position of Croatia, as well as the European Union, which they have repeated several times, is that they will not recognize any changes to the borders from 1967 unless the Israelis and Palestinians agree.

Croatia’s position is identical, and Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić-Radman criticized Serbia and Kosovo a few years ago when, under pressure from Trump, they decided to move their embassies to Jerusalem.

As it turns out, Croatia is not thinking about changing its position. Dragan Covic is doing it on his own, and in Zagreb they are looking down on the head of HDZ BiH and HNS BiH, who avoids even the slightest criticism of Zoran Milanovic, and refused to respond to the meeting that Andrej Plenkovic organized in Brussels, between Charles Michel and politicians of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Klix.ba reports.
