Restoration of the Neretva Hotel in Mostar continued

After several years of deadlock, works on the restoration of the Neretva Hotel in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) city of Mostar continued. The hotel is a national monument of BiH, and the investor is BiH company Neretva doo from Visoko. The total value of the project is close to 8.7 million Euros.

The hotel was built in 1892, and the senior officials such as Franjo Josip and Josip Broz-Tito stayed there as well. According to the announcements, the renovated hotel will have 83 rooms.

With the arrival of the railway, the Austro-Hungarians made a conscious decision to shift the heart of Mostar to the Trg Musala area. No building was more symbolic of this move than the splendid 1892 Hotel Neretva with its layered yellow-and-red stonework and neo-Moorish design. Sadly it was left as a ruinous shell at the end of the 1990s conflict and only stabilised wall fragments remain.
