RS Minister: There are no Layoffs due to an Increase in the Minimum Wage

Danijel Egić, Minister of Labor and Veterans and Disability Protection of the Republika Srpska, said that there are no layoffs in the Republika Srpska as a result of the increase in the minimum wage in the RS.

“We do not have an increased impact on the Employment Service of the Republika Srpska in terms of unemployment payments or any other rights through the Service, on the contrary, there are fewer of those persons,” Egić told reporters in Banja Luka today.

Egić, referring to the data of the Employment Service of Republika Srpska, said that from January 1 to February 12, 973 persons registered with the Service, while 1,021 persons registered in the same period last year.

He said that it is frivolous to write in some media and portals that the Government of Republika Srpska is to blame for the closure of companies, stating that companies were closed in other and much better times.

“The Government of Republika Srpska is not to blame for the increase in the prices of basic foodstuffs either, because the price of labor is not crucial in any calculation of the finished product, but it is one of the factors,” Egić pointed out.

Egić concluded that the increase in the price of bakery products in the RS is not only the result of an increase in the lowest wage, if one takes into account the fact that energy products do not increase in price and if the prices of basic raw materials of certain types of products even fall.

The lowest salary in Republika Srpska this year is 900 BAM, the Government of Republika Srpska decided earlier, Srna news agency writes.
