Capacity of the terminal building of the Sarajevo International Airport is up to one million passengers annually. However, due to increasing interest of airlines to establish their flights on this airport, the number of passengers increases as well, which requires larger spatial capacities of all services at the Sarajevo International Airport.
This is why the airport has been working on reconstruction of the existing capacities for the past several months, in order to provide even better services to the passengers and other users.
For the coming period, the Airport announced implementation of priority projects such as the construction of a fast exit taxiway, which will contribute to the improvement of quality of plane traffic, and the expansion of platform, in order to make three parking spaces for large planes.
Expansion of the platform should begin already next year.
Moreover, the plans include a construction of an exclusive VIP lounge, reconstruction of the restaurant in the Terminal A and, as one of the greatest and most demanding projects, reconstruction of the airport runway, with total length of 2.600 meters.
In addition to the aforementioned, the Airport also announced construction of a freezing chamber which will serve for processing the export of fresh meat and shipments of large dimensions.
“We also plan to build a new business building in the length of 3.600 square meters, where certain services and administration will be moved. The building will have three floors, exits on the platform and parking on the front side. Competition for design of the main project has been published recently,” the Airport stated.
Twelve airlines currently operate on the Sarajevo Airport, connecting Sarajevo with Zagreb (Croatia Airlines), Vienna (Austrian Airlines), Ljubljana (Adria Airlines), Belgrade (Air Serbia), Munich (Lufthansa), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines), Dubai (FlyDubai), Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm (Norwegian Air Shuttle), Cologne, Stuttgart (Eurowings), Zurich (Swiss Air) and Sharjah (Air Arabia).
Regarding the introduction of new airlines in this year, the Airport stated that negotiations with the airline Qatar Airways are in the final stage and that by the end of the year the direct flight from Sarajevo to Doha should be established. Furthermore, they added that the Airport does no negotiate with any other low-cost airline except Wizzair.
