13467771_1211615602222727_799879555_oThe first European Summit on Islamophobia will be held in Sarajevo from June 24 until June 26. Guests who have already confirmed their participation are the British Minister of Foreign Affairs Jack Straw, Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Bakir Izetbegović, founder of Doctors Without Borders (MSF –  Médecins Sans Frontières) Bernard Kouchner, Reis-ul-ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein Effendi Kavazović, and many others.

The Summit will be held only couple of days before Slovakia, who previously demonstrated anti-Muslim and anti-migrant attitudes, takes over the chairmanship over the European Union.

Representatives of 17 European countries from all religious communities announced their arrival.

Topic of the Summit will be the establishment of the best political practice in the fight against Islamophobia in Europe. Conclusions of the Summit will be joined into a Report that will be at disposal for creators of the European policy after the Summit.

Declaration Sarajevo-Istanbul on Islamophobia will also be signed. The declaration will include the restored commitment and effort in solving anti-Muslim crimes of hatred and intolerance.

Sarajevo was elected the host of the Summit due to historical importance of the city and an example of what can happen when anti-Muslim and racist rhetoric develops swimmingly, which is best evidenced by the war from 1992 until 1995.

The summit will be organized in partnership with city authorities of Sarajevo.
