Given that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH’s) capital Sarajevo is an increasingly interesting tourist destination, there are already announcements for new airlines.

Having this in mind, air carriers currently operating from Sarajevo International Airport have announced an increase in a number of their flights.

For instance, Aegan Airlines announced that it will launch summer season flights between Athens and Sarajevo from June this year and Tunisair announced a new seasonal line between Monastery and Sarajevo.

Aircompany FlyBosnia should start the line to Riyadh on January 31st and announced flights to London and other European cities.

There are also announcements for new destinations within the framework of the BiH and China Air Transport Establishment Agreements.

In addition, there are announcements for lines to Skopje, Amman, Bahrain.

“Airline companies make a decision on the viability of establishing a line, but there is a fact that Sarajevo International Airport has been growing steadily for six consecutive years, indicating that this trend will continue this year as well,” was stated for Federal News Agency.

In the current winter flight schedule for 2018/2019,  Sarajevo is connected to directly with 12 destinations: Zagreb, Istanbul, Munich, Ljubljana, Belgrade, Dubai, Doha, Vienna, Stuttgart, Cologne, Stockholm and Budapest with the same number of airlines: Adria Airways, Air Serbia, Austrian Airlines , Croatia Airlines, Eurowings, Flydubai, Lufthansa, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Pegasus Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air, Qatar Airways.

During the summer season, the number of airlines is significantly higher than in the winter period. For example, for some time, Air Arabia airline maintains a summer season for Sharjah and Swiss Airlines for Zurich.

Breaking all previous records, Sarajevo International Airport (SIA) welcomed 1,046,635 passengers in 2018, recording a 9.2 percent increase year-on-year, SIA press office said Tuesday.

Two records were broken in 2018, when the highest number of passengers was recorded in July and August, when nearly 160,000 passengers were served each month.

The second record was recorded when in December 2018, SIA welcomed a millionth passenger, thus hitting a new annual record in its history.

From Jan.1 until Dec.31, 2028, a total of 13,432 aviation operations were carried out, recording an increase of 5.0 percent year-on-year, SIA stated in a press release.

In the past year, 2,508,643 kilograms of commercial cargo was dispatched.
