Sarajevo to be a City with a Zero Pollution Rate by 2030?

The gradual reduction of traffic in the city center will help Sarajevo to be a city with a zero pollution rate by 2030 in accordance with the agendas of the European Union and the UN, it was pointed out today at the panel discussion “Challenges of urban mobility and zero pollution in Sarajevo”.

President of the Green Club Saša Magazinović explained that all traffic from the city center should be moved, for which it is necessary to provide parking spaces outside the city zone and adequate public traffic.

“Ljubljana is an excellent example of a city that has successfully resolved the issues of who, when and under what circumstances can come to a certain part of the city by car,” said Magazinović.

He stated that the ban on traffic is the last stage of such a project, as it must first be ensured that life functions normally in those parts of the city.

Director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, Jovan Marjanović, said that together with the local authorities, they regularly closed test streets for traffic in the city center, whereby the increased pedestrian traffic on those streets brought great economic benefits, in addition to the reduction of harmful emissions.

“In order to be able to extend this, a coordinated action of business entities, local authorities, but also a manifestation such as SFF is needed,” said Marjanović and added that this year, for the first time, the entire fleet of vehicles for SFF was electric.

The panel was organized by the Green Club and the Sarajevo Film Festival, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The Green Club consists of groups of representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska and local assemblies/councils, Fena reports.
