Schmidt and Inzko to meet with Merkel soon

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will receive Christian Schmidt, the new High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and his predecessor, Valentin Inzko, in his office on Wednesday, August 18, Nezavisne Novine has learned.

The topic of conversation will be BiH’s European path and the upcoming reforms in fulfilling 14 key recommendations of the European Commission.

When asked whether this meeting was organized due to the blockades and the refusal of RS to agree to cooperate with Schmidt, it was briefly answered that it was a meeting that was planned earlier.

As a reminder, RS representatives refuse to meet with the new High Representative, after his predecessor Inzko imposed amendments to the BiH Criminal Code, according to which denying genocide in Srebrenica is punishable.

In addition, RS authorities claim that the new High Representative is not legal and legitimate because he has not been confirmed by the UN Security Council, Nezavisne writes.
