Schmidt: From a Tourist to an Expert on BiH, RS is moving in a slightly more rational Direction

After the session of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), Christian Schmidt addressed the public, outlining the topics of the session. He touched on the use of the Bonn powers from Tuesday to secure elections in October and on the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and other topics.

“Let me say that I am surprised, I have not yet experienced something like this to discuss whether elections will be held at all. Elections are the right of citizens. That is why the international community has been writing letters to the Council of Ministers since January asking them to find funds for the elections, it all took so long, “ Schmidt noted at the beginning of his address.

Further, he reiterated his satisfaction with the fact that the Council adopted the budget “after long struggles” and decided to finance the elections, but that unfortunately, it was not within the framework requested by the Central Election Commission (CEC). That is why he points out that he used the Bonn powers.

“It could happen that the ballots do not arrive on time, and that is not a topic that should be discussed at all, but simply had to be done. I had to make a decision that I made because the financing of the elections concerns citizens, but I tell everyone that allthose who want to score a point for themselves and their political party from the political side, please, this decision is nothing but support for the elections, everything else is a fantasy, “ Schmidt said.

He also referred to the BiH Election Law, saying that it was “really a pity and sad” that we did not manage to find a solution for changes to the Election Law.

“This is a message for all constituent peoples – we must have a balanced situation,” he said.

He also referred to the secessionist activities of Milorad Dodik in the Republika Srpska (RS), expressing the view that things in that field have changed for the better.

”In the RS, things are going in a slightly more rational direction. Own Agency for Medicines or High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), such a thing would certainly not go unanswered. It is known that I am a person who keeps my word and I will be in the future in when it comes to citizens. It calms me down to see a positive shift in Banja Luka and that certain constructive things are happening. Namely, something that the Russian ambassador said will not remain in history textbooks,” he said.

He points out that they also discussed the topic of state property.

“I have the impression that certain things are moving in that area as well,” he concluded, Klix.ba writes.
