Security Minister: The EU cannot find Excuses to avoid starting Accession Negotiations with BiH

The Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nenad Nešić, expressed his belief that Bosnia and Herzegovina has given enough arguments that no one can find excuses to avoid starting accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The issue of our relationship with the EU is first of all their political issue, he said.

“BiH was already wronged when Moldova and Ukraine agreed to open accession negotiations, and we were put in the basket with Georgia. Neither Moldova is better than BiH, nor did it fulfill more conditions, nor does it respect European standards more than us, but forward, submitted a request for candidate status, received that status and consent to the opening of talks. The process, which for the Balkan countries takes eight or more years, in their case was ended promptly. The same applies to Ukraine, which does not even control its own territory.” Nesic said.

The EU is important for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but, as he states, “unfortunately, we cannot influence their political views.”

“We have done everything in our power. We have shown full commitment to EU integration, demonstrated that internal dialogue is possible. That is why I expect them to clearly tell us whether they are in favor of further EU expansion and whether there is room for BiH in that package. I hope for a positive outcome because we fulfilled our obligations for the most part. The ministry I lead fulfilled all obligations, with full respect for the constitutional structure of the country and the competences of various levels of government,” Nešić pointed out.

He adds that everything was done because “European values are needed for our sake and for a better quality of life.”

“The only thing we expect is a fair and not humiliating relationship,” said Nešić in today’s announcement, according to the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fena news agency writes.
