On 12 March, solemn opening of TBC diagnostics laboratories will be held in Bihać, Foča, Travnik and Zenica.
Reconstruction of the laboratories was done as a part of the project ”Strengthening DOTS Strategy and Improving the Fight the TBC Program”, which includes the control of the medicine resistant types and control of spreading the infection in BiH.
Reconstruction of the laboratories will enabled more efficient working conditions, in accordance with recommended measures of infection control, and in accordance with WHO guidelines.
After the reconstruction, laboratories fulfil the recommendations of level 2 bio-safety which enabled the working condition for lab technicians and better lab analysis.
As a part of the reconstruction, labs were rehabilitated and equipped with bio-safety room, which is necessary for the work of the lab and thus secured the maximum protection of lab staff, and reduced contamination to minimum.
Since 2008, thanks to the money of Global Fund, UNDP has worked on improving the work of labs and enabling them to be in accordance with international regulations.
Also, the lab staff had additional education in BiH and abroad, and in the past years quality control system has been conducted in cooperation with labs from Germany.
Regular control shows that the quality of the new labs is in accordance to the EU standards, and that BiH citizens will get the same quality of treatment as those in the EU.
