The sky above planet Earth was lighter last night thanks to the Supermoon, which has seldom been larger and closer. Despite the clouds and fog, citizens of BiH managed to see this spectacular view.
This sky phenomenon has appeared several times during last year, but this is the largest Supermoon since 1948 – 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than usual.
Namely, the Moon was approximately 45.000 kilometers closer to the Earth last night than in the period of the most distant position. Given that the Moon orbit is elliptical, the Earth’s satellite is intermittently in the perigee – the closest point in the orbit – and in the apogee, the most distant point in the orbit around the Earth.
The next significant Supermoon will appear on November 25, 2034. Until then, enjoy in the meteor rain announced for December this year.
