In Trebinje, the 31st anniversary of the tragic death of 26-year-old Srdjan Aleksic, who died in the city center defending his Bosniak friend Alen Glavovic, was marked by laying flowers and lighting candles at the city cemetery.
Family members and representatives of the City Administration of Trebinje gathered at the grave of Srdjan Aleksic, and while laying flowers on the eternal resting place of the young Trebinje hero, they sent messages of peace and coexistence to the public, for which Srdjan Aleksic gave his life.
His father Rade, with mixed feelings of sadness for the loss of his son, but proud of his son’s actions, said that all his thoughts, when it comes to Srdjan, refer to his youth, and from his son’s grave, pointing out the senselessness of war, called for peace and coexistence.
“Let’s stand up against the war, against those people who do not participate in the war, but dictate that people die and do not allow us to create a wonderful life here,” Aleksic emphasized.
Speaking of the heroic deed of the young Trebinje citizen, Deputy Mayor Drazen Boskovic said that the representatives of the City Administration participate in the commemoration of the anniversary of the death of Srdjan Aleksic every year.
“The commitment of the Trebinje City Administration is to send messages of peace, to advocate tolerance, that’s the only way we can prevent incident situations from happening,” Boskovic stated.
Srdjan Aleksic died 31 years ago from the injuries he sustained after defending his fellow Bosniak Alen Glavovic in the city center six days earlier.
Moreover, Srdjan Aleksic posthumously received the Charter of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and fifteen years ago one of Sarajevo’s streets was named after Srdjan.
Today, Belgrade and Novi Sad share the street of heroes from Trebinje, and 14 years ago the “Srdjan Aleksic” journalist award was established, which became part of the Network for Peace Building in BiH.
Alen Glavovic lives in Sweden today, and he visits Trebinje, Srdjan’s grave, and his father every year, Klix.ba writes.
