Success Story: Raspberries from Srebrenica on the Canadian Market

Senad Jusic and Radenko Simic from Donji Potocari have been engaged in raspberry growing for six years now, and they say that this year’s harvest went very well and that they are satisfied with the yield and the purchase price of raspberries.

They pointed out that the first years of raspberry growing were the most difficult due to the investment and the low purchase price of raspberries.

”At the beginning, we were thinking whether to do raspberry growing at all. Radenko and I made a joint agreement because we wanted the cultivation of vilamet and miker raspberry to be the basis of our joint investment. So far, we have achieved an extremely good result in production. We started with a plantation of two dunums, and now we have almost reached two hectares that are covered with raspberry plantations, ” told Jusicin an interview for agency Fena.

He emphasized that raspberry growing requires intensive work and a lot of dedicated time.

”Due to field conditions, the use of agricultural machinery is difficult, and labor is also a problem during the harvest of ripe fruit. This year was unexpected for all of us when it comes to raspberry yield and purchase price. We had about eleven and a half tons of raspberries and we are extremely satisfied with the results achieved, ” said Jusic.

According to him, raspberries do not have any incentive for the achieved results, but he still recommends everyone to do raspberry growing.

”Our effort and work do not have the selective support of the local community or anyone else. We are simply left to ourselves and to current market developments. My advice is that all those who are able to engage with raspberry growing do it, because raspberries are very healthy, and dealing with raspberry growing also improves the financial situation, ” Jusic emphasized.

Also, he boasted that the raspberries they grow are exported outside the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

”According to the information of the buyers, our raspberries are even exported to Canada. We are satisfied and proud of ourselves that we have achieved such a quality that can be found on the market in Europe and beyond. It proves that our products are of high quality. Our raspberry plantation is an exceptional motive, regardless of whether we are Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats, or others, and it is an indicator that with joint efforts and work we can create new values that are of great importance to all of us, ” Jusic noted.
