The market surveillance agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the market inspections of the entity and the Brčko district of Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted joint surveillance activities for children’s cribs in the period October 2022 – April 2023. The main goal of the proactive monitoring was to determine whether the cribs, which are placed on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, are safe for children.
In order to determine whether children’s cots meet the prescribed safety requirements, laboratory tests of seven samples of cots, administrative verification of labels and instructions for use, and visual verification of certain safety features were carried out, according to the BiH Market Surveillance Agency.
It was found that five of the seven tested models of children’s cribs did not meet the prescribed requirements. Business subjects eliminated administrative discrepancies on four models of children’s cribs in the amount of 204 pieces, while one model posed a serious risk for consumers and was withdrawn from the market.
Based on the results of market surveillance, it can be determined that the situation on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina with regard to the safety of baby cots is relatively satisfactory, the Agency emphasizes.
The model that was withdrawn from the market originated in Turkey, and the importer was a company from Brčko. As explained, the aforementioned crib poses a risk of injury because: the cavities and openings on the inside of the crib do not meet the prescribed requirements, the distance between the slats of the crib base is inadequate, the instruction manual is incomplete, while the labeling was not in accordance with the requirements of the standard. The cot also does not meet the safety requirements prescribed in the standards for that type of product.
The Agency recommended that consumers who bought the product stop using it and return it to the importer or to the retail store where they bought it.
