european parliamentPolitical turmoil are hampering the progress of reforms in Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2014, as stated by deputies of the European Parliament in two resolutions on Thursday. Both countries have to do more in building democratic processes, fight against corruption and establishing of professional and depoliticized public administration. Deputies added that the cooperation in achieving these goals at the path towards the European Union is needed.

Parliament invites the political elite in Bosnia and Herzegovina to show the unequivocal and clear obligation and engagement in the continuation of the reform process and acquiring to the European Union. It was emphasized that the political impasse, too complicated and inefficient institutional architecture, as well as a lack of cooperation between political leaders, are seriously damaging the stabilization and development of the country.

The European Parliament expressed great concern over the statement that has been adopted by SNSD on 25th April 2015, in which, among other things, they call for a referendum on independence of RS during 2018 and emphasizes that, according to Dayton agreement, RS has no right on the concession. It also reminds that, by the adoption of the commitment in written form, all political forces, including SNSD as well, committed to the respect of “sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina“.

Commission should pay special attention to the implementation of Sejdic-Finci judgement, and they welcomed the entry into the force of the Agreement on stabilization and association, scheduled for 1st June.
