The Fourth Eco Drina Regatta started in Gorazde

In Goražde, the fourth consecutive Eco Drina regatta started today, as part of the 26th International Festival of Friendship.

Despite the announced bad weather conditions, more than 50 boats with about 400 participants set off from the “Buk” Kayaking Club camp from the location of Modran near Ustikolina for a full day’s sailing on the Drina river in a length of about 20 km.

The organizer of the regatta, Dženis Ćulov, is satisfied that the meteorologists’ forecasts did not spoil the mood of the numerous participants who arrived from various parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad.

“We had about 700 registered participants, but due to the announced bad weather conditions, many gave up, but we are glad that the regatta did not fail. We have students from four continents from more than ten countries. Among others, there are representatives of the American Embassy in BiH, the mayor of Herceg Novi from Montenegro and numerous other guests at the regatta,” said Ćulov.

He is grateful to the Kayak Club “Buk” from Goražde and the rafting camps from Tara, which made a great contribution to the organization of this attractive event.

“They really helped us and gave us the boats, two rafts were planned, but the water level of the Drina did not allow it. For now, the weather conditions are favorable, everything is going well. Somewhere halfway, a lunch is planned where we will promote our gastronomic offer, including the famous fish soup,” he added.

Ćulov reminded that the goal of this attractive event is the promotion of Goražde and its natural beauty with the river Drina, as the greatest potential of Goražde and the Bosnia Podrinje Canton.

“The Drina is our most beautiful pearl and I am glad that it is recognized in this way year after year. The regatta has the prefix ‘Eco’ to draw attention to the need to preserve the Drina and other natural beauties. This year, we were unable to organize a coastal cleaning action, but all participants received garbage bags and each individual can contribute by disposing of waste in the correct way,” said Ćulov.
