The Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, addressed the media after the joint session of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zagreb.
The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, stated that the relations between BiH and Croatia are good in all segments, but that the goal is to further improve them.
Kristo pointed out that at the joint session of the Government of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all important issues were discussed, including the Trgovska Gora problem, where Croatia plans to store nuclear waste near the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We discussed the nuclear waste disposal site on Trgovska Gora, the construction of the Trebinje airport and other important issues. I am sure that the best solution for both countries will be found in all of this,” said Krišto at a press conference after the joint session of the Croatian Government and the Council of Ministers.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated that Croatia supports “the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the constitutional arrangement of two entities and three constituent nations.”
Plenković: If someone stood in front of that wall 24 hours a day for 365 days, he would not receive radiation
Plenković emphasized that Croatia supports the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially after receiving candidate status for EU membership.
“I want to congratulate my colleague Kristo on everything achieved in the last six months,” said Plenković and pointed to Croatia’s unconditional support for Bosnia and Herzegovina for the status of a candidate for entry into the European Union.
The subject of the construction of the Radioactive Waste Disposal Center at the Čerkezovac location on Trgovska Gora was one of the most important items on the agenda of the joint session of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Republic of Croatia in Zagreb.
“Regarding the open issues, Trgovska gora and the radioactive waste disposal site, it is important that the location in Banovina, which is 2 kilometers from the border, in an uninhabited area, would be used to store low-level radioactive waste. Čerkezovac is not intended for high-level radioactive waste.” Plenković said.
He added that they are not aware of any leakage of radioactive waste in countries that have similar disposal sites.
“To dispel fears, I would like to say that if someone were to stand 365 days 24 hours in front of the wall of that landfill, he would not receive any radiation. This is less than the radiation received by any passenger of an airplane on a single flight,” said Plenković.
As it was pointed out, the agenda of today’s session included a number of conclusions of common interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia with the aim of further improving the bilateral relations of the two countries.
This was the third joint session of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of Croatia.
