Britain’s new Labor government announced on Friday that it would continue funding the UN agency for Palestine refugees, UNRWA.
Britain is one of several countries to freeze its funding to UNRWA following Israeli allegations that some of the agency’s staff were involved in the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel that triggered the Gaza war.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy told parliament he had been assured the agency had taken steps to “ensure it meets the highest standards of neutrality”.
“I can confirm to this House that we are canceling the suspension of UNRWA funding. Britain will give the agency 21 million (pounds) of funds,” he said, according to Reuters.
