Representatives of the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton have unanimously adopted the amendment to the Constitution of Sarajevo Canton, which in effect made this canton the first one in BiH that allowed the implementation of ”Sejdić and Finci ruling”.

According to amendments, those who call themselves ”The Others” (ethnically undeclared and ethnic minorities) will be able to form its own caucus in the Assembly.

Also, besides two deputies of the President of the Assembly, there will be another one, the representative of ”The Others”, which in effect will result that ”The Others” will have the same rights as constituent nations of BiH.

With this decision the Constitution of Sarajevo Canton has been harmonized with the European convention on Human Rights and Basic Freedoms, as well as with other international legal documents that protect human rights and liberties.

The initiative was started by Naša Stranka (Our Party), and the amendments will enter into force at midnight on 30 January.

Chief of the Office of European Council in BiH Mary Ann Hennessey congratulated the representatives of the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, and said that she hopes that similar amendments will be made at the level of BiH.
