The problems of migrants have not been resolved yet, although the situation is incomparably better today than a few years ago, is concluded at today’s session of representatives of the Una-Sana Canton and members of the Joint Commission for Human Rights of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.
It was pointed out that numerous aspects of the problem of migration and asylum in BiH were influenced by the fact that the situation is incomparably better today.
It could be heard at the meeting that the influx of migrants is significantly declining, which has weakened the pressure on temporary reception centers, that the structure of migrants has changed, and that migrant children are involved and the regular educational process must not be a reason to relax.
The BiH Parliament said that in the conditions of an unregulated system and the lack of appropriate legal solutions, problems are always possible, especially since it is difficult to predict whether a larger wave of migrants will reappear or BiH will feel the full weight of the problem of refugees from Ukraine.
Simultaneously with the regulation of this problem, it is necessary, as it was said, to work much more intensively on the suppression of human trafficking, which is a mandatory accompanying phenomenon of any mass migration.
The members of the Joint Commission assessed that the goal of the working visit to Una-Sana Canton was fully met, which included not only an insight into the situation on the ground, conditions of accommodation of migrants and respect for their human rights, but also intensive talks with all actors .
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Canton and the City of Bihac, the Service for Foreigners, the International Organization for Migration, the Danish Refugee Council, the Red Cross of the Federation of BiH, UNICEF, UNHCR, the Association “Your Rights” and the OSCE Office. in Drvar, the chairman of the Commission Lazar Prodanovic and members Mirjana Marinkovic-Lepic and Aida Barucija.
It was announced that the Joint Commission, after this visit, will prepare and review a report with conclusions and a plan of concrete activities to overcome all current and, possibly, future problems and obstacles.
